Large and midsize Mass. biotech firms draw attention of drugmakers

Midsize and large biotech firms in Massachusetts are becoming an attractive target for pharmaceutical companies working to refill their pipeline through acquisitions. Aside from Genzyme, which is in talks to be purchased by Sanofi-Aventis, other companies such as Biogen Idec and Vertex Pharmaceuticals that have products on the market can be expected to receive offers from big drugmakers, an analyst said.
