Public and private initiatives to bring an ethane cracker to West Virginia could lead to a "game-changing scenario" for the state's plastics industry and overall economy, writes state Sen. Karen Facemyer, who is also president of the Polymer Alliance Zone of West Virginia. The Marcellus Shale boom could lead to about 400,000 direct and indirect jobs and about $4 billion in tax revenue, according to the American Chemistry Council. "If West Virginia can capture even a small portion of that economic impact, the benefits could be staggering," Facemyer writes.
