Ford goes solar to make greener electric cars

Ford is partnering with SunPower to offer solar panels to the buyers of the automaker's electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The 2.5-kilowatt system will allow drivers to travel about 1,000 a month without using a net-positive amount of energy from the grid, obviating one of the main environmental concerns about electric cars. "We saw it as a great opportunity to bring two companies together and design and offer a system for those customers," says Ford executive Mike Tinskey.
