ONC advanced notice maps proposed metadata standards for EHRs

An advanced notice issued by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT outlines the agency's proposals on the use of metadata standards as they relate to patient identity, data sources and privacy to facilitate the electronic exchange of health records. "The adoption of metadata standards can help rapidly advance electronic health information exchange across a variety of different exchange architectures," the ONC said in the notice, which is up for public comment through Sept. 23.
