IRS steps up scrutiny of small firms

The Internal Revenue Service is sending letters to small firms that inquire as to whether they have reported their income properly. In particular, the IRS might be looking for businesses that have unusually low cash receipts. "There's an emotional thing when you get a pretty ominous-looking letter from the IRS, [saying] you might have done some bad things," said Tom Reese, owner of Hearing Well.
