AOL will lay off hundreds of Patch employees and replace head Steven Kalin as it closes or finds partners for 400 of its 900 Patch community websites. The layoffs are larger than last year's and follow recent AOL statements that Patch isn't profitable. "Our No. 1 North Star is to get Patch to profitability, and to make the tough decisions around Patch to get there," AOL chief Tim Armstrong said during an earnings call.
