Robotic plants take root in Italy

Robotic plants could help researchers better understand how roots grow and bend, which could lead to multiple applications, according to a study by the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa. Scientists there are working on a system that copies roots' behavior. "The mock-ups and prototypes we've developed aim to validate some of the functions and features of plant roots," said researcher Barbara Mazzolai.
