Seattle restaurateur raises pay, opposes wage mandates

Seattle restaurateur Tom Douglas is vocal in his disapproval of government mandates on everything from sick leave to a livable wage. Instead of waiting for officials to require it, Douglas took it upon himself to raise the pay of cooks and bakers at his 16 restaurants to $15 an hour and boost dishwasher pay to $12 per hour. "I've always been in a labor-intensive business that unfortunately hasn't paid very well. I decided after 25 years, I was in a position to try to change that."
