States look for Medicaid drug savings

States are rushing to capitalize on possible savings under an Affordable Care Act provision allowing them to get Medicaid drug rebates even when they shift the program's prescription drug benefit to managed-care companies. Modernizing Medicaid's pharmacy benefit is a "relatively pain-free" way for states to lower costs without cutting benefits, says Pharmaceutical Care Management Association President and CEO Mark Merritt.
