Dietary guidelines begin to take shape

As the federal advisory panel working on updating nutritional recommendations wrapped up its meetings yesterday, members urged Americans to increase their daily fruit and vegetable intake to five to 13 servings, up from the previously recommended five to nine servings. Further, consumers are recommended to boost their consumption of whole grains and fish and to exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
