Fed survey finds banks more cautious in lending practices

In a survey of senior loan officers, the Federal Reserve found that banks are tightening their lending standards for consumers and businesses. The results indicate that the credit crunch could hinder the economy into 2009. According to the survey, about two-thirds of U.S. banks tightened lending standards for consumer loans, including credit cards, between April and July.
