AECL announces repair method for NRU reactor

Atomic Energy of Canada said it has chosen a "weld buildup" method to repair the corrosion on the aluminum reactor vessel that led to the leak that shut down the reactor in mid-May. "This technique builds up the thickness of the metal by fusing weld rod material to the surface," the company said. AECL is nearing implementation of the second phase in its repair plan, which is the actual repair of the reactor, project manager David Cox said.
