Green program could speed economic recovery, groups say

A plan to make U.S. buildings greener would help the U.S. economy recover from the economic downturn, according to two policy groups. They are urging President Barack Obama to support the $500 billion plan, which is aimed at making U.S. residential and commercial buildings 40% more energy efficient by 2020. The Center for American Progress and the Energy Future Coalition estimate the program would create 625,000 full-time jobs and save families up to $1,200 per year.
