Amtrak ridership increases 6.1% as travelers choose rail

Amtrak ridership climbed 6.1% from October 2009 through July 2010, as the train moved 23.9 million passengers. "Americans are beginning to travel again and are choosing Amtrak as an affordable and efficient way to move around the country," said Amtrak chief executive Joe Boardman. Among the most successful lines is Amtrak's new service in Lynchburg, Va.
