Bromwich: Interior Dept. relied heavily on industry standards

The Interior Department depended too much on the oil and natural gas industry in "setting standards" for offshore drilling, said Michael Bromwich, the director of the agency's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement. "We're going to be exploring borrowing from alternative models," he added. The American Petroleum Institute usually formulates the standards that are then integrated into federal policies.
