College freshmen are expected to slow back-to-college spending

Back-to-college spending is likely to remain flat this year as freshmen and their parents dramatically cut spending, especially in the category of consumer electronics, according to an NRF survey. "Freshmen have always been the cash cow for retailers when it comes to the back-to-college season," said NRF spokeswoman Ellen Davis.
