Fla. nuclear program provides employment for new graduates

Twenty-two new graduates of the Clean Energy Institute at Miami Dade College's Wolfson campus in Florida will immediately be employed at Florida Power & Light's Turkey Point nuclear plant with salaries of at least $45,000. The institute, which is a joint project by Miami Dade College and FPL, is aiming to develop workers to replace the nuclear industry's aging employees. According to Mitch Singer, a spokesman for the Nuclear Energy Institute, 38% of nuclear plant employees could retire in the next five years.
