Illinois town backs out of FutureGen project

Mattoon, Ill., has backed out of the $1.2 billion FutureGen project after it learned from federal officials that the town would not host the flagship clean-coal plant itself, but would merely be used as an underground storage site for carbon dioxide piped in from another location. Government officials said the town's decision would not significantly affect the broader FutureGen project.
