Phone shipments grow, but prices and margins slump

Global cell phone shipments jumped by 13.8% in the second quarter, but prices and profit margins came under pressure, according to Gartner, which said smartphone sales grew by 51%. Nokia continued to lose market share among phone makers, falling from 36.8% a year ago to 34.2%. Android supplanted the iPhone operating system to gain third place behind Symbian and BlackBerry.
