San Francisco officials chart course for Treasure Island

City planners in San Francisco are aiming to fast-track the development of Treasure Island, a 400-acre former Navy base. Plans for the $1.4 billion project are already in place for a pedestrian-friendly development with 8,000 housing units, 300 acres of parks and open space, and stores and entertainment venues. Officials say construction could start early next year.
