Viacom appeals in $1 billion YouTube copyright case

Viacom is appealing the dismissal of its $1 billion copyright lawsuit against YouTube, according to court filings. The case was thrown out in June on the grounds that YouTube was protected by the safe-harbor provision of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which shields service providers if they remove infringing content when notified by copyright holders.
