Small-business owners might need to get creative if they're looking for financing, as a recent survey by Pepperdine University indicates almost a third of private companies say they have been denied for a loan, Michelle Fox writes. Some things to consider: If your financing needs are less than $50,000, you might want a microloan provided by the Small Business Administration. Also, don't be afraid to take a bigger loan with a slightly higher interest rate if you need the capital.
