Small change could have saved employer thousands in medical claims

An employer who refused to buy a telephone headset costing about $10 for an employee ended up with $128,424 in workers' compensation medical bills after the employee developed neck, shoulder, head and arm pain from trying to hold the phone on her shoulder while typing. The position aggravated a pre-existing condition. "In some cases a small expense now could save tons in workers' comp benefits down the road," Christian Schappel writes.
