Device could give artificial sense of touch

Researchers have used zinc oxide nanowires to create a device that turns mechanical pressure into light signals. This device could be used to give an artificial sense of touch, or to aid in biological imaging. "When the light emission is created, it can be detected immediately with the optical fiber," said Zhong Lin Wang of the Georgia Institute of Technology.
