Federally owned wind energy facility to be built in Texas Panhandle

Workers will break ground Tuesday on a wind farm near the National Nuclear Security Administration production office in the Texas Panhandle, the largest federal wind farm to date. The facility is expected to produce 47 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year and lessen carbon dioxide emissions by more than 38,580 tons annually. The project, which aims to start operation on five 2.3-megawatt wind turbines by next summer, could save $2.8 million in energy costs.
