Longer boom arm is behind Ky. county decision to buy John Deere tractor-mower

A combination tractor and boom mower from John Deere will be purchased by Calloway County, Ky., after a 3-1 vote of the region's fiscal court. The court received three bids to make its purchase, and it opted for the John Deere machine, in part because of its longer boom arm. The 7130 W/Tiger Boom Mower is "bigger and heavier, and the boom (an extending arm with a mower at its end that allows for cutting vegetation well away from the machine itself) is longer," said magistrate Connie Morgan.
