Participation in school sports and performing vigorous physical activity were associated with reduced obesity risk in middle-school-aged boys, but not girls, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. Meanwhile, consumption of milk offered some protection against obesity in girls. Regularly eating school lunches and at least two hours of TV time each day raised the risk of gaining excessive weight in both boys and girls, researchers said.
