Study shows high health cost over lifetime in type 2 diabetes

A study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine revealed the average lifetime medical cost of treating type 2 diabetes and related complications was nearly $85,000 per patient. Female patients showed slightly higher lifetime health costs compared with men, and treatment of diabetes complications made up 53% of lifetime medical costs, researchers said.
