Tips for the first week on the job for associate professors

Tenure-track professors beginning their first year should get to know their classroom, brush up on skills and meet colleagues and staff, writes David Perlmutter, dean of the College of Media and Communication at Texas Tech University. He advises in this commentary that new faculty attend all orientations and required training and take time to be thankful. "Your morale and mood are crucial. I see too many assistant professors who get caught up in the hustle and labor immersion of their first week and fail to relish their good fortune," Perlmutter writes.
