U.S. approval of Peruvian papayas comes with conditions

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service posted a proposed rule that would allow imports of papayas from Peru, but only from registered production facilities that follow packing procedures, fruit fly trapping and hot water treatment to eliminate pests. The recommendation came after a risk assessment revealed the fruit is at high risk for Medfly and South American fruit fly infestations.
