Utilities look to Big Data to decipher the smart grid

As mass deployments of smart meters reach their pinnacle in the U.S. and customers come to embrace the potential benefits of the smart grid, utilities are increasingly looking to data analytics to make sense of customer data, enhance reliance and drive new investments, a survey finds. The poll of 260 utility executives, conducted jointly by Zpryme and eMeter, found nearly half of respondents remain skeptical of their ability to handle the massive amounts of information coming online and are turning to Big Data applications to bridge the gap.
