Scientists identify gene associated with leukopenia

A variant of the NUDT15 gene is associated with an increased risk of developing leukopenia among patients taking immunosuppressive treatments for autoimmune disorders, according to researchers in the U.S. and South Korea. Genetic tests could help physicians individualize immunosuppressive therapies to reduce the risk of side effects, the study team said.
