National chains compete for breakfast customers

Starbucks launched a variety of breakfast offerings after company executives took note of customers who walked in for their morning coffee carrying food in competitors' bags. Although quickservice "is still a lunch-and-dinner business," says Bob Sandelman, president of Sandelman & Associates, major chains including Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell and Jack in the Box are seeking a piece of the breakfast pie.
