A greater number of U.K. workers are pursuing overseas employment each year. About 400,000 people emigrated from Great Britain for a year or more in 2006, according to the government. Sending employees overseas creates an HR burden, and can also be costly to companies. Between 20% and 50% of workers who work overseas come back earlier than planned, costing their employers almost $470,000 each. Still, sending workers overseas helps transfer knowledge and experience and build a pool of talented workers, according to one expert.
