Wide variation found in evaluation of infant febrile illness

A study in Pediatrics found a wide variation in the evaluation and management of febrile illness in young infants in pediatric emergency departments in Canada. Researchers found blood and urine tests were ordered in the majority of facilities included in the study, but cerebrospinal fluid testing and antibiotic treatment rates differed across centers.
