Banks say overdraft policies help consumers

A judge recently ordered Wells Fargo to pay customers for the way the bank processes debit card transactions. Banks say that by processing the largest transactions first, they make more of the most important payments. Critics say the practice results in more overdraft fees. Wells Fargo and other major banks, including Citibank and Bank of America, said they do not plan to change the practice.
