Chains set sights on Taiwan to meet new demand from Chinese

Leading hotel chains, including Marriott, Le Meridien and W Hotels, are planning to make a debut in Taiwan to meet demand from a surge of Chinese tourists expected as rules on travel to the island, in place for 60 years, are lifted. Marriott is working on deal for a $195 million, 352-room lodging franchise agreement with the owner of the Taipei-based luxury hotel Sherwood, and Le Meridien and W Hotels are planning to open hotels in the city this year.
