Mental health problems are on the rise among college students

The percentage of college students undergoing on-campus counseling who were diagnosed with one mental illness increased from 93% in 1998 to 96% in 2009, a U.S. study found. Researchers also noted that the number of students who suffered moderate to severe depression increased from 34% to 41%, and the percentage of those prescribed psychiatric drugs rose from 11% to 24% during the same period.
