Mortgages hit lowest level since 1971; housing is still weak

The average rate for a 30-year mortgage reached its lowest level in nearly 40 years, hitting 4.44%, compared with 4.49% the week before, says Freddie Mac. The housing market remains weak, however, as low interest rates have not increased interest in home sales.
