Twitter has rolled out an official "Tweet" button for third-party websites, designed to take over from widgets such as TweetMeme's popular "Retweet" button. The site worked with TweetMeme to soften the effects of the new product, signing a business agreement and licensing some of the developer's technology. "The message this sends out to Twitter developers is that if they create a successful product, Twitter will absorb it. That is not necessarily a bad thing," writes Erick Schonfeld.
