On worker status, contractors take precautions on subs

When it comes to the immigration status of workers, contractors need to keep an eye on subcontractors, writes attorney Charlie Morgan. Contractors could face state and federal penalties if subcontractors violate immigration law and therefore, they should take precautions to protect themselves from subcontractor infractions, he argues. Requiring subcontractors to use the E-Verify program and indemnify the contractor if penalties are incurred are among the steps that contractors should take to protect themselves, according to Morgan.
