Europe has gone silent on further rescue spending while German Chancellor Angela Merkel campaigns for a third term, but the situation is certain to change after the election on 22 September, according to The Economist. Ireland is ready to return to the private sector for financing, but that's not the case for Portugal and Greece, where sovereign debt remains unsustainable, the magazine says.
