Are the "reading wars" returning?

Some members of the Reading Hall of Fame argue that the National Council on Teacher Quality is reigniting the "reading wars" by its narrowed focus on phonics instruction in place of other teaching methods when it released its June report on collegiate teacher-preparation programs. The 23 professors and literacy-education experts said in a statement released Wednesday that teachers need broad, deep training on literacy process and practice.
