China eases physical fitness standards for students

Noting a decline in the physical fitness of students in China, the State General Administration of Sports has lowered its standards for physical performance among students. Under the new standards, officials have lowered benchmarks for events such as the 50-meter sprint, standing long jump and 800-1,000-meter run, and also eliminated some events, such as parallel bars.
