Doctors have mixed views on HIT readiness, state of health care industry

A survey by athenahealth found that only 38% of responding physicians are "somewhat confident" they can meet the ICD-10 transition deadline. Regarding EHR use, the study found that 79% of respondents are confident they can satisfy the requirements set for stage 2 of the EHR meaningful use program. "Physicians are overwhelmed. Whether you look at the impact of first-generation EMRs on their workflow, the growing confusion associated with ACOs or the dwindling level of confidence they have in their own future, an increasing number of physicians are struggling," said anthenahealth Chief Medical Officer Dr. Todd Rothenhaus.
