How sports champ ESPN will handle its new rivals

ESPN, by locking in long-term programming agreements for many sports, is well-positioned to hold off new competition from rival networks launched by Fox, NBCUniversal and CBS, Brian Steinberg writes. However, ESPN must strike a balance between retaining its marquee sports, such as the NBA, whose contract is up in 2016, and keeping programming fees in check, Steinberg writes.
