Iowa company abandons plans for horse slaughter plant

An Iowa plant that planned to begin horse slaughter operations will begin handling cattle instead, according to company President Keaton Walker. "We just can't sit with our heads down," Walker said. "We have to get back to work. Our main focus now is going to be beef." The announcement came after a federal judge temporarily blocked horse slaughter in the ongoing legal debate revolving around the fate of the tens of thousands of unwanted and abandoned horses in the U.S.
