Providers should ensure EHR compliance before HIPAA deadline

Before the Sept. 23 implementation deadline for HIPAA's omnibus rules, providers must be sure they have made the required changes to EHRs, according to business expert Ronald B. Sterling. This includes planning a security risk analysis. Sterling recommends that providers also ensure they are on schedule for stage 2 meaningful use upgrades and the conversion to ICD-10, both of which go into effect in 2014.
