Quiet Gateway Airport is a boon for Ariz. first responders

Limited commercial service at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is a plus for Arizona firefighters during wildfire season because open runways allow faster response times, airport and emergency officials said. With dispatching, training, an air-tanker base and a mobilization center at the airport, crews leave from Gateway to respond to disasters or terrorist events throughout the U.S. and even in other countries, Phoenix Interagency Fire Center manager Paul Womack said.
