WPP chief combats Publicis-Omnicom with small deals, social posts

The heated rivalry between Martin Sorrell of WPP and Maurice Levy of Publicis has picked up after the proposed Publicis-Omnicom merger was announced, with WPP bagging five new acquisitions with a focus on digital markets and Big Data. Sorrell has also joined LinkedIn's Influencers program, and he has used the platform to take a shot at his longtime rival, calling the merger and other plans "strategic leaps backwards for various odd or inconsistent or contradictory reasons."
